Psychological Battles During Forex Trading

Trading is not a battle between yourself and the market. It is a battle between yourself and your emotions to see which one is going to control the other. More after than not, it is the emotions that take control during Forex training because we are new and we do not have any experience in containing or controlling them.

Fear

Fear is often the first and main culprit that takes control. Unfortunately, in order make a profit from the markets we have to risk our capital and it is this fear of loss that most new traders cannot get control of. There are days when nothing goes right. Most of our trades fail and the market simply plays against us. Giving up for the day and trying again tomorrow does not seem to be a good option as we do not want to look at ourselves as failures.

Unfortunately, you are not the only one. Pretty much all traders go through this at some point. Markets can be very scary places but the desire to learn, adapt and master is the key to getting through this. If everyone was scared there would not be millions of successful traders and trading companies around the world that exists today. They do not get successful by chance; it is their consistent and professional attitude that guides them along the way.

Market randomness

There are many people who say trading is like betting. The markets are simply too random and there is no way to profit from them unless you are lucky. You may also find that it is unsuccessful traders or those who have not even tried trading before, that are saying this. The market is not random – it is always right. If we knew what each participant was planning to do, we would pinpoint trend and reversal levels with ease. We cannot do this. We must therefore look at what the markets are telling us and what is the next, most probable result. Once the result starts to happen, we get in on it to profit from our trade.

Forex training is there for a reason – to train us to trade in the Forex market. This should eliminate any randomness you may think existed and control any emotional barriers you may face. The trick is to test everything you do. No matter which currency pairs are traded or which strategy is used, testing will carve a path through our training process. By reviewing the results and adapting everything you do and how you act is of upmost importance. This is training in itself but the end result will always bring us a step closer to having less fear, more control and better results. The key is to not try and beat the market but to think like the market and use this to our financial advantage. So many people have failed because they thought they were better than the market. Mistakes like this make people dislike trading and develop opinions that make it look like a casino. On the flip side, the market does not care about you, your feelings, your strategies or whether you lost or won. We should give the same discourtesy back but respect its decisions.
